Improving Your Google Search ResultsGoogle rolled-out a new global algorithm Aug 1. Google’s algorithm is the secret formula by which the search engine decides which websites it will offer up to any query. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) gurus look at lots of data in search of clues to “game” the algorithm: showing up at the top of the Search Results Page can, after all, offer big rewards for a website. Google recommends against this guessing game, as there are probably hundreds of indicators that factor into each search.

Can You Improve Your Search Results?

Here’s what’s important: EAT. Google HAS said – many times – that it ranks as most valuable those sites that score highest on Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. You may have good questions about what actually constitutes expertise, authority, or trustworthiness, but the gurus generally agree that this new algorithm rewards sites that are seen as EAT-worthy. If you want to learn more, read this (about EAT) and then read this (about the latest rollout).

The bottom line: focus on your EAT proposition. How can you create content that delivers expertise – authoritatively and in a way that generates trust among your readers? Google is likely to maintain this philosophy for the long haul. If you’re trying to decide what kind of content you should be creating, let EAT be your first guide.
